Long Island landscaping can be as simple as a low maintenance perennial garden, a foundation planting, a tree for a front yard planting or shrubs for a rear yard renovation.
As a residential landscape designer, the largest factor in creating an architectural landscape design is style. Most clients have seen landscape designs that they like, but do not know how to translate the landscape design principles to their home or office. Japanese gardens (Long Island Japanese gardens) are used many times to describe waterfalls, rock gardens, dry stream beds and exotic plantings. English gardens usually describe trees, shrubs and flowers in combination.
Long Island landscape designs can differ radically. South shore Nassau County and south shore Suffolk County properties tend to be smaller in scale. Great attention must be paid to detail in creating a low maintenance design. North shore landscape designs tend to be larger. Low maintenance design principles should still be incorporated to keep costs down. The scale of both home and property should be considered. Since most of Long Island has been developed, existing shade trees and screen plantings to hide neighbors should be part of the landscape plan. In selecting the proper plants for a site, we always think of solar angles, insects, pets and children.
Pool landscape design, interlocking pavers, driveways, walkways and wildlife are also important parts of a yard landscape design.
